Our communities
Fort Hood is a 339 square mile military installation located in Central Texas, approximately 60 miles north of the capital city of Austin, and 50 miles south of Waco. The city of Killeen borders Fort Hood to the east and Copperas Cove to the west.
There are currently 12 family housing areas or villages on the Installation that are managed by Fort Hood Family Housing. Included within the various housing areas are community facilities such as schools, community centers, swimming pools, child development centers, and a variety of amenities such as fitness facilities, parks, and playgrounds.
Retail facilities (shoppettes) are located in Montague, Comanche, Kouma and Walker villages. Larger retail facilities are located at Central Fort Hood in the form of a mini-mall, and two Installation Exchanges and Commissaries located on Clear Creek Road and near Walker Village.
